NAKLand

What is NAKLand?

NAKLand is a carnival style event that is hosted by the gentlemen of NAK. We focus primarily on inviting low-income elementary schools within our community, however any child in our community is free to attend.

NAK land consists of games/activities, sports, face painting, food, entertainment, egg hunts, prize give-aways, and much more. Best of all, this event is FREE and open to the public. Stop by and have a day filled with fun.

NAKLand’s Goal

The goal of NAKLand is to encourage children in the Washoe county area, to pursue higher education by exposing them to the university at a young age. Although NAKLand is for any child, we primarily focus on children from under-represented backgrounds. A majority of our brothers are first-generation students and know the importance of getting exposed to the university early.

NAKLand History

NAKLand 2009 was the first time this event was hosted in Reno, and it was a great success. It was held for the children at Sierra Vista Elementary School where over 250 children and their families attended. They partook in games like beanbag toss, rubber duck racing, and bingo. Also facilitated sports like football, soccer, basketball, and dodge ball; two bounce houses and giant slide, and face painting for the younger children. Raffle tickets were given to each child that came to the event and prizes like Easter baskets, sports gear and even two new bicycles were given away.

NAKLand 2010 was moved to the University of Nevada, Reno. Hosted right outside of the Joe Crowley Student Union, it was an ideal central location with easy accessibility and parking. The campus atmosphere also called for education advocacy. We believe it’s never too early to start thinking about college. Our egg hunts were held at Hilliard Plaza and behind the Student Union. Once again, there was plenty of club/org participation, entertainment and fun. Prizes such as Nerf Guns, dolls, sports gear and bicycles were also given away. Once again, NAKLand was a great success with more than 300 children and families.

Since then NAKLand has continued to host the event the University Of Nevada, Reno. NAK actively seeks out volunteers within multiple areas of our university, Because of this NAKLand allows the community to be exposed to different diverse groups within the university.
